The Puma Kinetic 4000 AIR wicket keeping glove is a mid-range competitive glove. Like versions before, this is designed with comfort and breathability in mind: It’s been made with “a unique air-mesh construction” but also has internal finger tip protection and good padding beneath the high visibility ‘hazard’ striped palms.

There’s a standard Puma T-bar across to the thumbs which conforms to all ICC standards and a nicely contoured cuff to protect the wrist section whilst still allowing movement.

Adidas 2011 Pro Wicket Keeping Gloves

This entry from Adidas into the wicket keeping glove market, the Adidas 2011 Pro Wicket Keeping Gloves is a solid effort in the mid-length glove market. The gloves have improved the design to the wrist cuffing and increased the flexibility and cupping – and there’s Climacool fabric on the back of the hands to help keep the temperature down.

Traditionalists may complain about the iridescent orange of the inner side of the gloves – it apparently ‘gives Wicket Keeping its own unique identity within the Adidas cricket range’ – but does lose some of its brightness after an hour or two of practice.

Available in sizes from Small Men’s to Oversize Men’s this is a very creditable glove.

The Puma Calibre 4000 GEL Wicket Keeping Gloves are a short padded wrist wicket keeping glove with a standard Puma T-bar at the thumb which conforms to ICC regulations. There is “anatomic construction” as well as additional gel palm conditioning. On the outside there is finger protection and a high visibility striped palm with improved grip technology.

It is highly visible indeed! According to Puma:

Ensure any edge from a batsman is gobbled up with these superior, flexible and strong gloves.

The lime green and turquoise striping really does take a bit of getting used to and for this reviewer at least, the gloves were stubbornly flat – difficult to curve around a ball to catch, and they really didn’t form a welcoming pouch that a pair of full size gloves in a more traditional style would. Obviously, that’s just a personal opinion and the under-13s loved them!
